I used to claim every welcome offer that looked generous, only to discover that the wagering rules mattered more than the headline amount. The practical fix is simple: compare the full promotion, calculate the real cost of clearing it, and choose an offer that matches how you actually play.

When I review a new site, I start with the current OnlyWin Casino Promotions page, then check the terms before making a deposit. That habit helps me separate useful bonuses from flashy offers with restrictive limits, short expiry periods, or game contributions that make the bonus difficult to use.

Why the details matter

A casino promotion is not free cash in the usual sense. It is a package of conditions. The headline value may include a deposit match, free spins, a bonus balance, or a combination of all three. To judge it fairly, I look at the minimum deposit, maximum bonus, playthrough multiplier, eligible games, maximum bet, withdrawal rules, and expiry date.

For example, a $100 deposit match with 20x wagering on the bonus requires $2,000 in qualifying play. If the terms apply wagering to the deposit and bonus together, the same offer may require $4,000. That difference changes the value immediately. I also check whether slots contribute 100 percent while table games contribute less, since choosing the wrong game can make the requirement much harder to finish.

My method for checking a promotion

1. Confirm eligibility first

I verify that the offer is available to Canadian players and that my province is accepted. Most welcome promotions are limited to one per person, household, device, payment method, or IP address. I also read the identity-verification section. A bonus can be valid while a withdrawal remains pending until age and identity checks are complete.

2. Convert the headline into a real target

I write down the deposit, bonus amount, wagering multiplier, and game contribution. Then I calculate the required turnover. If the offer gives a $200 bonus at 15x wagering, the basic target is $3,000 when the multiplier applies only to the bonus. I would not treat that as a $200 saving; I would treat it as a possible reward for completing a $3,000 play requirement.

3. Check the restrictions before opting in

The most important lines are often below the main banner. I look for maximum qualifying deposits, excluded games, maximum stake per spin or hand, bonus expiry, restricted payment methods, and rules about withdrawing before the wagering target is completed. A single wager above the stated limit can sometimes void the bonus and any related winnings.

4. Keep bonus funds separate

I record my cash balance and bonus balance separately whenever the account allows it. That makes it easier to see whether I am using my own funds or progressing through promotional play. I also set a fixed entertainment budget before depositing. If the balance reaches zero, I stop; I never increase the budget to chase an unfinished offer.

Canadian and provincial considerations

Canadian players should not assume that one promotion works the same way everywhere. Ontario has a regulated online gaming framework, and sites serving that market may display different availability, terms, or payment options. In other provinces, the legal and operating environment can differ, so I confirm that the operator is permitted to accept players where I live.

Currency is another practical point. I choose Canadian-dollar transactions whenever possible to avoid conversion charges from a bank or card provider. I also compare deposit and withdrawal processing times. An offer may look attractive, but a slow cash-out or an unexpected fee can outweigh a modest bonus.

Provincial support services and self-exclusion tools should be easy to find. I use deposit, loss, session, and time limits where available. Promotions should fit within a planned budget, not encourage larger deposits than I intended to make.

Promotion types compared

My final checklist

• Read the full terms rather than relying on the banner.
• Calculate wagering in Canadian dollars before opting in.
• Confirm provincial eligibility and accepted payment methods.
• Check the maximum stake, excluded games, and expiry date.
• Verify the operator’s identity and withdrawal requirements.
• Use limits and treat every promotion as optional entertainment.

Key takeaways

The strongest promotion is not necessarily the largest one. In my experience, the better offer has transparent terms, reasonable wagering, a useful expiry period, and a payment route that suits my budget. I compare the maths first, then the games and extras. That approach takes a few minutes, but it prevents the common mistake of accepting a bonus whose conditions are more demanding than its value.
